Why use a customer service assessment?
Customer service roles often get hundreds of applicants, and most CVs say the same thing: "excellent communication skills". A situational judgement test puts candidates in realistic moments, such as an angry customer, a question they can't answer or a promise they can't keep, and shows how they would actually respond. It is fair and quick, and it predicts on-the-job behaviour far better than a CV.
What this template covers
- De-escalation: the right first step with an upset customer.
- Honesty and follow-up: what to do when you don't know the answer, and why false promises backfire.
- Active listening: paraphrasing, clarifying questions and confirming next steps.
- Service metrics: what CSAT and first contact resolution measure.
How to run it well
Use it as the first filter, straight after the application form. Six to ten scenario questions take candidates under ten minutes. Turn on option shuffling so the "obviously polite" answer isn't always in the same place. Multiple-select questions work well for listening skills because good agents do several things at once.
Add scenarios from your own business. Your real complaint types, refund rules and escalation paths make the test more accurate and give candidates a realistic preview of the job, so people who would not enjoy it can drop out early. Review the per-question stats after the first 20 or so responses and rewrite any question that almost everyone gets right.
Who this test is for
Use it for call-centre agents, help-desk and live chat staff, retail and hospitality front-of-house roles, receptionists and account managers. Seasonal and volume hiring is where it helps most: when you need forty agents by next month, an automatic first filter saves your team leaders days of phone screens.
Make it yours
Edit the wording, add points to the most important scenarios, or ask the AI generator for questions on topics like handling refunds or live chat etiquette. Results show score, pass or fail and time taken for every candidate, and the paid plans export to CSV for your applicant tracking system.
